Passage read
Reading of the abbreviated print: confirmation to Henry, son of Gilbert son of Waldeve, and his heirs, of six bovates in Waleton, four in Wavertree, and four in Newsham, and the great serjeanty of the wapentake. Walthevus his grandfather had held those lands and that serjeanty in the times of William count of Boulogne, Warenne, and Mortain, and of King Henry, John's father. John, while count of Mortain, had granted and confirmed the same lands and serjeanty to Gilbert, father of the said Henry. Dated by the hand of Hubert, archbishop of Canterbury and chancellor, at Le Mans, 23 September, in the first year of the reign.
The print abbreviates the Latin. This is a reading of page 28, not a diplomatic copy and not a reading of the original roll. The enrollment does not say that William granted the lands to Waldeve. It says Waldeve held them in William's time and in Henry II's time.
